Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use a broker?

Save time and money! No more spending hours comparing rates, calling numerous companies. We compare rates and companies for you and help you select the best option for your needs.

Have trouble keeping up with your contract? We will contact you when it is the best time to look at a new contract.

What is deregulation?

Prior to the deregulation of electricity, everyone had the same provider for their area. In 2002, Texas began the current model and consumers gained the ability to choose their own electricity provider.

Is the entire state of Texas deregulated?

No. Some co-ops were allowed to maintain their monopolies and those customers cannot choose their provider. Some cities even contain both regulated (co-ops) and deregulated (choice) areas. We can help you determine your situation.

What is a TDSP?

A Transmission and Distribution Service Provider is the company which owns and operates the power lines in your area. The TDSPs in Texas are: American Electric Power (AEP), CenterPoint Energy, Oncor Electric Delivery, and Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP).

Can I change providers before my contract ends?
We rarely advise anyone to break their contract due to the penalties involved. However, we may be able to start a new contract at the end of your current one to protect you from expected price increases.

What is a POLR?

POLR is a Provider of Last Resort. This is a company who becomes your provider if your current provider goes out of business. This is typically the highest priced plan. If this happens, you may receive a letter from your current provider advising you of the change. You will also receive a letter from your POLR, and you have the option of switching to a new provider without penalty.
